Tixel for Skin Rejuvenation
Tixel® utilizes radiant heat to rejuvenate the skin, reduce laxity, and repair sun damage. It enhances overall complexion, boosts luminosity, refines fine lines and texture, and can thicken and tighten thin skin.
Tixel is a low-risk procedure with minimal downtime, making it suitable for the entire face, including the eyelids, neck, and décolletage—areas traditionally difficult to improve. It can be used on all skin types and any body area.
Compared to other devices, Tixel offers numerous advantages. As a non-ablative device, it requires minimal social downtime (typically 1-3 days of redness). The risk of adverse effects such as scarring, burns, and post-inflammatory pigmentation is significantly lower than with ablative lasers.
Tixel® is our preferred device for non-surgical eye rejuvenation, effective on both the upper and lower eyelids. It is ideal for treating thin, crepey skin, skin laxity, or for preventing signs of aging around the eyes. Tixel is also an excellent treatment to use before or after eyelid surgery to maintain healthy skin and preserve surgical results.
Additionally, Tixel can be set to less intensive levels to address clinical issues by infusing medical products into the skin. This emerging and exciting field opens new avenues for treating conditions such as acne, hypopigmentation, rosacea, and wrinkles without the need for needles.
What Is Tixel?
Tixel uses a combination of heat and motion to rejuvenate the skin, stimulate collagen production, and tighten skin with less downtime than traditional fractional resurfacing lasers like Fraxel®. Its unique Thermo-Mechanical Action (TMA®) technology not only improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but also treats active acne and scarring from acne and other injuries.
Due to this combination of heat and motion, Tixel is safe for use on sensitive skin and can even be applied near the eyes.
Tixel employs a handpiece with a 1 cm medical-grade titanium plate containing 81 pyramid-shaped pins arranged in a grid pattern to deliver thermal energy to the skin. The super-charged tip heats to 400° C and is applied to the skin using a stamping technique that provides short bursts of heat. The high heat and titanium structure of the Tixel handpiece makes it self-sterilizing, ensuring safe and efficient treatment.
The thermal energy from the sterile titanium tip creates micro-thermal zones of fractional injuries in the skin, triggering the natural healing process to generate new collagen, resulting in smoother, softer, and tighter skin.

What Is a Tixel Treatment Like?
To prepare for your Tixel treatment, follow these steps to achieve the best possible results:
- Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before and after your treatment. Use mineral- or physical-based sunscreens daily to protect your skin.
- Inform your provider of all medications, including oral supplements.
- Disclose any medical history of herpes simplex (cold sores), keloids, uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetic complications, bleeding disorders, collagen vascular diseases, or immunosuppressive disorders.
- Start anti-viral medication 1 day prior to treatment if you have a history of herpes simplex (cold sores).
- Notify your provider if you have taken Isotretinoin/Accutane within 6 months of treatment.
- Avoid Tixel treatment if you are pregnant, as it has not been studied in pregnant women.
On the day of your procedure, arrive with a clean face—no makeup, creams, or lotions. Ensure the treatment area is free of hair by shaving beforehand. If your treatment includes the area around your eyes, bring glasses or an extra pair of contact lenses.
During the Treatment
A Tixel treatment lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Your provider will clean and dry your skin before the procedure. They may apply a prescription numbing cream to ensure your comfort. Most patients tolerate the treatment well with minimal discomfort.
During the procedure, you will feel mild heat and pressure as the handpiece is passed over your skin multiple times, depending on the severity of the skin condition and your goals.
After the Treatment
For the first few hours to a few days post-treatment, you may experience a warm sensation, redness, and swelling similar to a mild sunburn. You should not experience any peeling or blistering.
Your skin may display a grid-like pattern and feel “sandy” for 3 to 5 days, followed by mild flaking as new skin replaces the old. Small scabs or scratches may appear and typically clear within 4 to 5 days.
Post-Treatment Care
After 5 days, you can resume your usual skincare routine. It is recommended to use minimal retinol, antioxidants, and sun protection to maintain your results. Your provider will recommend a post-treatment skincare routine to support optimal healing and ensure the best possible outcomes.
